Our thoughts on the Labour party recruitment initiative for the UK armed forces

The labour party has just announced a new recruitment scheme with 22 of the country’s leading companies to guarantee an interview for ex armed forces personnel for their vacancies.

Some of the participants to the “veterans Interview Programme’’ (VIP) include Greggs, John Lewis, O2 and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club .

This is obviously extremely good news after the recent announcement from the Ministry of defence regarding cuts to the UK armed forces.

The initiative, launched by Jim Murphy the shadow defence secretary, said “it is wrong that someone who has served in Afghanistan is expected to join the back of the queue at the local job centre.” He carried on to say that this was not giving special treatment but overcoming the barriers that sometimes exist for ex service people.

Our armed forces are probably the most well trained people. They have exceptional experience within all sectors and possess many skills such as leadership, working with others and working under pressure.

At Net-Recruit we encourage employers to see the benefits that employing ex forces personnel can bring to their company and hope that this new recruitment initiative is taken up by all employers in the future.
